The Dragon's Head Blog: School visit to the centre

Pupils from St George’s School took some time out from their classroom lessons to visit the Taoist Tai Chi European Centre in Colchester. After a long walk from their school they were welcomed by a small team of volunteers. They sat enthralled, listening to the story of The Crane and the Snake and Master Moy’s own story and vision to promote better health for all.

We practised the first few moves of the set together enjoying the names like Single Whip and White Stork Cools Wings.

We looked at the shrine and talked about some of the objects on it and their use/symbolism of items on it and then tried a short chant, particularly enjoyed by all, especially the musically minded! Fruit squash and biscuits were offered giving them some energy for their long walk back to school.

More than 90 pupils from year 6 visited over 3 days commenting that their experience was “tiring”, “confusing” and “relaxing”. We hope they can remember to practise tai chi to help them relax next year when it’s time for exams.
