The Dragon's Head Blog: National Program and Chinese New Year Celebrations from Calgary, Alberta

Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi® Western Region in Canada warmly welcomed the President of Fung Loy Kok Institute of Taoism, Marsha Eberhardt, as we celebrated the Year of the Dog with a national program on February 24 and 25, 2018. The program was preceded by a delicious Chinese New Year banquet held in the awesome setting of the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre on the evening of Friday the February 23th, 2018.

We were delighted to host Deputy Mayor of the City of Calgary, Councillor Ward Sutherland, and Councillor Sean Chu to our Chinese New Year banquet. Our branch co-leader, Barbara Klaassen, read a very complimentary letter celebrating our organization and bringing greetings for the Chinese New Year from Councillor Jeromy Farkas who was unable to attend at the last minute due to the flu. Everyone cheered as we watched the big screen TVs as His Worship Mayor Naheed Nenshi sent a video link to wish our organization love, laughter and prosperity for the occasion. Our regional President Frazer Smith then summarized our international health survey Improving Lives Around the World and Reducing Healthcare Costs.

Our program was inspirational for everyone! Under Marsha’s guidance 95 participants explored danyu, toryu and the first part of the set, expanding our mind with the awesome analogies of inner tubes and telescopes! It was a great privilege to have Marsha teach us with such clarity. We now have a deeper understanding of the organization and the branches and instructors have a more clear understanding of how to do things and how to talk about the organization.
