The Dragon's Head Blog: Doctors reaching out to the Society and the community

There was a conference for Family Doctors in upstate New York on Chronic Disease Management. It was hosted by the Upstate Medical University, Department of Family Medicine, in Syracuse, NY. The director of that program contacted the Society and asked for a program as a final social event of the day. Four from the Ithaca Branch and one from the Syracuse branch gave a presentation; demonstration of first half of set, brief testimonial from each  one, then a Tai Chi class to those interested where we practiced the first three moves and some jongs. Thirteen doctors stayed for the demonstration and six doctors actually participated in the practice.

We had a good exchange. One doctor was amazed at how his breath was being regulated in such a simple way. Another felt much lighter and more open in his chest. There will be follow up to this event.

The director said that doctors are now being paid (probably by the government) to link their patients to community based services; to help their patients find good things for their health like our Society! This is an exciting piece of news. Are you aware of this in your area? Preventative services are being supported!
