The Dragon's Head Blog: Tai Chi on the Beach at Wasaga Beach, Ontario

Sand and sunshine greeted 70 participants from all of our locations as they arrived on the shores of Wasaga Beach, the site of the longest freshwater beach in the world, for our Tai Chi on the Beach event.  This was another one of our 20th anniversary celebrations in the Collingwood branch. Over 20 people from the Wasaga Beach area joined us to come and try some of the moves.

This was the first major event organized by the Wasaga group who set to work obtaining free publicity provided by local newspapers, magazines, coffee shops and radio stations as well as distributing posters throughout the town inviting people to come and try tai chi. This sparked an interview by a journalist for the Wasaga Sun to find out more about our society and the benefits of Taoist Tai Chi® arts.

This event was held in conjunction with the Ontario Parks’ Healthy Parks Healthy People initiative and John Fisher, Superintendent of Wasaga Provincial Parks surprised us with a visit to the event.

Despite the winds that came in during our potluck picnic, we enjoyed our tai chi on the beach and it did not rain.

Our final event will be the Central Region Workshop on Saturday, September 17.  Please visit the Collingwood branch web page for details.
