The Dragon's Head Blog: Quebec City Branch cooks pies for Relais d’Espérance Community

The joy of giving … despite the storm! (la version française suit)

For several years, participants from the Quebec Branch have been meeting monthly to offer a substantial meal to more than 125 people poor and isolated who attend the Relais d’Espérance Community organization. In December, it is normally the Lac-Saint-Jean participants who travel two hours getting to Quebec City to cook with Quebec participants a delicious succulent meat pies from Lac-Saint-Jean. However, this year, there was a big storm in the Laurentide’s Park and it was far too dangerous to hit the road.

So … no problem, 14 participants from the Quebec City Branch gathered to cook the pies! But did they know the secrets of the original recipe? So … no problem, a participant from Alma joined by phone to give them some specific instructions!

They had a lot of fun peeling, cutting, mixing and rolling, thinking of all the human warmth that would emerge from this great traditional dish. Result: 50 pounds of potatoes peeled in no time, 3 hours of preparation and 12 hours of cooking in the oven over low heat!

There was joy and contentment in the eyes and heart of these participants, and it was an amazing experience for the two new participants present who experienced an unexpected aspect in their discovery of the Taoist Tai Chi® arts.

La joie de donner… malgré la tempête!

Depuis plusieurs années, des participants de la section de Québec se réunissent tous les mois pour offrir un repas substantiel à plus de 125 personnes démunis et isolées qui fréquentent l’organisme le Relais d’Espérance. En décembre, ce sont normalement les participants du Lac-Saint-Jean qui font deux heures de route pour se rendre à Québec et venir cuisiner avec des participants de Québec de succulentes tourtières traditionnelles du Lac-Saint-Jean. Par contre, cette année, il y avait une tempête dans le parc des Laurentides et il était beaucoup trop dangereux de prendre la route.

Alors… pas de problème, 14 participants de la section de Québec se sont réunis pour cuisiner les tourtières! Mais connaissaient-ils les secrets de la recette originale? Alors… pas de problème, un participant d’Alma s’est joint à eux par téléphone pour leur donner quelques instructions bien précises!

Ils ont eu beaucoup de plaisir à peler, couper, mélanger et rouler, en pensant à toute la chaleur humaine que dégagerait ce grand mets traditionnel. Résultat: 50 livres de patates épluchées dans le temps de le dire, 3 heures de préparation et 12 heures de cuisson au four à feu doux!

Il y avait de la joie et du contentement dans les yeux et le cœur de ces participants et ce fut une expérience extraordinaire pour les deux nouveaux participants présents qui ont pu connaître un aspect inattendu dans leur découverte des arts Taoist Tai Chi®.
