The Dragon's Head Blog: Luncheon Celebrating Chinese New Year in Colchester, UK

In Great Britain, Colchester hosted a five-day International Workshop led by Andrew Hung, from Toronto in Canada.

On Thursday at lunchtime we hosted a Chinese New Year celebration which started with a keenly anticipated lion dance.

Our invited guests included Sir Bob Russell, former Member of Parliament for Colchester and now High Steward of Colchester, the mayor of Colchester, Councillor Theresa Higgins as well as the mayor of South Woodham Ferrers, Councillor Christine Weir-Ewing, each of whom said a few words.

We also heard from Carmen Capilla for the Fung Loy Kok Institute of Taoism, Paul Davies for the European Regional Council and Crispin Barker for Great Britain.

The Lion went round the tables collecting red envelopes then chewed up the lettuce and wished everyone Gung Hey Fat Choi.

As over 200 members and guests enjoyed a four-course lunch, we heard greetings from representatives of the 14 countries present at the workshop, and watched a display of the tai chi set.

Once the confetti was swept away, it was back to the workshop ….
